Anne Martin creates mosaic masterpieces!

Topiary pear trees laden with ripe yellow fruit, vines dripping with plump green grapes, pencil pines in pretty pots, birds, leafy sea dragons, flowers, fish and fountains are just some of the stars of her unique, colourful garden – and they are all made of mosaic!

Anne originally trained as a fashion designer and later was craft editor for Woman’s Day. Since 2000, she has applied her expertise in the use of colour to create stunning mosaics—from very large panels that cover entire walls to small birdbaths and bowls. To ensure she has the perfect materials for a particular design, Anne often makes her own three-dimensional tiles, which are hand-glazed and fired in vibrant colours in the shapes of petals, leaves, fruit, fish or whatever is needed to create her picture.

Her front garden is planted with Australian natives, so she has created several mosaic pieces in earthy colours to complement the planting. From the lovely old Lychgate at the entrance, a wide path is decorated with circles of coloured pebbles, bricks and pavers, with a stunning large urn mosaicked in the colours of the surrounding flowers as the centrepiece. Further into the garden, sitting amongst the foliage, are three brightly tiled plinths topped with terracotta water bowls

In the back garden, several walls have been transformed with mosaics; the spectacular wood oven is tiled to depict a feast, and the top of the outdoor table is a ceramic banquet! Anne’s creative and complex designs have embellished pots, urns, and water bowls.

There is a large entertainment area and a small, well-stocked vegetable garden.

With time and attention to detail, Anne has perfected the art of mosaics and created a unique, vibrant and spectacular garden!
