This romantic English-style garden was created from a bare, sloping corner block with nothing more than a disused tennis court. After 10 years of planning, planting and paving, now there are lawns, borders, patios and a pool. The design uses formal lines and multi-level terraced rooms to tame the slopes and connect six distinct areas.
There’s plenty of shade in the woodland-style front garden thrown by more than 60 trees. The hydrangeas, camellias and shade-loving shrubs around an oval lawn thrive in the micro-climate that keeps them cooler in summer.
A formal rose garden includes David Austin roses in pinks, whites and yellows contained by clipped box hedges.
Beautiful stone walls and steps lead to a green-and-white themed garden with hedges, climbing roses, a goldfish pond and a fountain.
There is a lawn walk the length of a cricket pitch featuring a grove of gingkoes, prunus trees and a signature gleditsia. These provide dappled shade for the herbaceous borders in a riot of purples, pinks and whites.
A veggie patch includes fruit trees, climbing roses, sweet peas and salad for the kitchen. There is a greenhouse, a beehive and a chook shed.
Two fresh green robinias herald the main lawn, surrounded by Japanese box and murraya hedges, along with beds of mix-and-match annuals for a splash of summer colour.
The circular courtyard includes pots of white bougainvillea and geraniums. Along the length of the lap pool are pots of citrus trees to add a Mediterranean ambience, plus a duranta hedge for screening.
