Seaview, named for its sweeping views over the gulf, is an expansive, beautifully planted and lovingly maintained six-acre garden.  A long drive lined with oaks reveals glimpses of the magnificent double storey 1880’s stone house with its lovely iron lace balustrade.

The garden has been designed and planted to provide highlights in all seasons but in autumn it is the trees, many of them centuries old that are the showstoppers!

The deciduous varieties add pops of fiery red, orange and gold amid the greens of the evergreen trees, one being an ancient Bunya bunya (Auracaria bidwillii) that towers over the garden and tennis court.

Everywhere there are clipped domes and hedges, some small and others tall and all meticulously trimmed and adding style and structure to the garden’s wealth of flowering plants and shrubs. A superb parterre garden has pointy cones of clipped box punctuating the hedges that surround beds of pastel roses and, along the drive diosma and box are severely and imaginatively clipped to create marvelous organic and tactile configurations.

The planting is diverse and varied depending on the micro-climate and aspect of a particular area - sunny spots are colourful with roses and other sun-loving perennials whilst under the trees and in the newly planted woodland, shade-loving plants thrive.

The century-old stables and washhouse overlook an enclosed productive garden entered via a charming lychgate and beyond is an orchard. Chickens luxuriate in a large hen house and Rajah the resident peacock presides over all!

A newly built swimming pool has panoramic views over the valley, and close by the hillside is terraced and planted with vines. A lookout is perfectly positioned to enjoy views over the extensive arboretum filled with a huge range of shrubs and trees including Australian species. In the valley below a picturesque ‘folly’ is sited where two winter creeks converge and flow through to a dam.

A number of seats placed to enjoy the views of this stylish, grand old Adelaide Hill’s garden and the views beyond - for children there is very cute cubby house to explore!

Evesham garden is open across the road on the same day.
