Seachange Retreat

PORT LINCOLN

March 2024

Seachange Retreat is a small, bright and cheerful cottage garden crammed with flowers and pieces of colourful garden art! When Julie and Butch bought the property just over 2 years ago, other than two tall palm trees there was almost no garden but with hard work, plenty of flair and imagination the garden has been transformed into a vibrant and attractive space brimming with personality.

Eight months were spent improving the soil and adding retaining walls and irrigation before a weeping cherry, standard roses, salvias, daisies, iris, dahlias and penstemons and other vivid flowering plants were added.

Several steps lead up to the veranda and here there are more pops of colour. Pots, some hanging and many glazed and bright blue, are planted with lush foliage plants, succulents or vivid annuals in a kaleidoscope of colours.

The owner Julie is a mosaic artist and everywhere are pieces of her detailed work. Pots, wall hangings, sculptures have been mosaicked and add colour and interest to walls and wherever there is a space! On the verandah an old kitchen dresser with its doors inlaid with mosaic panels displays more pot plants and knick knacks, there is a decorative metal screen edging the verandah and a pretty white dovecote. Dahlias are in flower in the back garden and a tiny green house built by Butch using recycled materials is used for propagating plants and growing vegies.

Julie will have her mosaic workshop open and there will be demonstrations throughout the day and a sale of mosaic pieces.

Seachange Retreat makes imaginative use of the available space and shows just how charming and interesting a small garden can be!
