Rosenthal Gully is bright and colourful, flower-filled and creative!

Bron is a textile artist, musician and avid gardener. Since retiring, she and her husband Laurie have travelled extensively to indulge their love of landscapes, wildflowers and birds.

Their informal cottage garden has been lovingly developed over four decades with terraces, paths, steps and retaining walls built to allow access to every corner of the sloping block.

The trees and shrubs planted in the early days now form a year-round framework and garden beds are crammed with a mix of flowering shrubs, roses, perennials, groundcovers and bulbs to ensure a continuous and colourful floral display.

In late spring, the front garden is vibrant with iris, perennials, late-flowering bulbs and a massed display of roses blooming in a multitude of colours. Behind the house, the garden wraps around the sides of a half basketball court, and the roses, clematis and jasmine flood the entertaining area with perfume.  The eye is drawn to a delightful tea house at the bottom of the garden which can be reached by meandering paths through dense plantings of hellebores, fuchsias, ferns, bacopa and alstroemeria.

Everywhere there is evidence of Bron’s artistic talents; dotted throughout are her bonsai collection, her colourful mosaics, leadlight, pottery and glassware she has recycled into quirky garden ornaments and rusty pieces crafted from old garden tools.

In one of the lower garden beds, several milkweed plants provide food for the caterpillars of the Monarch butterfly, and the adjacent steps have been mosaicked to show the life cycle of butterflies. A tiny fairy garden with fairy tree houses will be of interest to children.
