An Impressive and elegant house and garden with rolling hills, grape vines, lawns and majestic gums

Gate pillars topped with symbolic griffins, ornate iron gates and a long oak-tree-lined drive are the first hints that Corryton Park is an outstanding property! The setting is postcard-perfect; vineyards, mature trees and majestic old gums surround the gracious stone homestead built in 1851, with its distinctive tower added in 1869.

Closer to the house, an avenue of gnarled old olives forms a shady tunnel of silver green foliage - the perfect spot for long summer lunches.

A stylish staircase leads to a terrace and a spectacular formal entrance garden planted with white roses and enclosed with hedges. Twin arbours are each draped with white wisteria and a centrally placed fountain gently trickles water into a circular pond.  The colour scheme here is restrained and elegant, predominantly white and green, brightened by pots of vibrant yellow flowering annuals.

A charming archway in a very old stone wall opens to a quaint little summer house and the verdant garden in front of the house. Mature trees edge the expansive lawn, and through their foliage there are glimpses of the surrounding countryside. In the back garden, the mood changes – stone paths meander through a very pretty cottage garden crammed with a charming assortment of colourful flowering shrubs and perennials.

Past several very old fruit trees that are remnants of an early orchard is a formal rose garden in the making. Over several years, the roses had been ‘rescued’ from other locations and temporarily replanted here. Recently, Corryton Burge gardener Nathan Gulin has composed a design for a formal rose garden. Although the area is not yet complete, the roses have been repositioned and, by spring, will respond to an abundance of TLC with a beautiful display of flowers.

Corryton Park homestead, now owned by the Burge winemaking family, is a magnificent example of early colonial architecture and a property where premium wine grapes have been grown for over 160 years. As well as the historic house and lovely garden, there are well-preserved picturesque old stone stables and a barn.
