An oasis for the soul with garden rooms and special spaces. Churston offers a mix of cottage colour, classical style, fruit and vegetable production intermingled with clever creative ideas and artistic whimsy. The garden is shared with dogs, cats, bunnies and bantams as well as people.

Water-wise Mediterranean plants and fragrant roses harmonise with fruit trees and vegies. Many fruit trees have been espaliered to save space, increase production and create different rooms. Regular fruit trees also compete for space.

Succulents add an architectural aspect in low water use areas. Deciduous trees on the boundary give protection from the hot north westerly sun.

Vegies and herbs are grown in raised beds which aids drainage and protects them from the bunnies. Free range bantams offer manure and pest control, while the former eat weeds and nibble down the pea straw regrowth. In line with the organic principles green waste is collected and mulched in a half wine barrel, often developing into a vegetable patch. Worm towers add to the mix of organic fertilizer.

In light of the recycling ethos, paths consist of old broken concrete and bricks. Other surfaces are gravelled, so rain can be absorbed.

Although the garden is busy it still has a feeling of peace, with some lovely contemplative sitting areas.

Please note: there is a fountain in the garden.

Size: 950sqm

The nominated charity for this garden is: Lucky Little Paws.
