This is a group of five gardens where boundary fences haven’t stopped neighbors banding together to share their land, expertise, friendship and a vast and varied selection of produce.

Around 500 types of fruits and other productive plants are grown, many of them rare, unusual and exotic! The collection includes berries, nuts, and an extensive assortment of vegetables, herbs, edible weeds - even a coffee plant and to sweeten it, the sugar herb Stevia is growing close by! Fruit trees include citrus, stone fruits, pome fruits, pomegranates, figs, paw paw, mangoes, avocado, bananas and guava.

In the first garden, Joe has amassed an amazing collection of sub-tropical plants including many seldom seen in SA. Through his back gate, his neighbor Rosanne grows a range of berries and fruit such as huge tasty strawberries in raised beds. Beyond is Mary’s garden planted with 35 healthy fruit trees.

Next door to Joe is a comprehensive vegetable garden with a selection of rare and hard to come by herbs and other interesting botanical curiosities including fascinating forms of fungi. The property across the road has around 40 varieties of fig trees with a number of them planted in two concentric circles, a clever trick to maximise planting in limited space – and the weeding is managed by ducks and chickens!

The gardens are run using permaculture principles and organic methods, and demonstrate what can be achieved with a willingness to try different, new food crops and providing each plant with the best possible conditions for it to thrive and fruit.

There will be a full program of talks and demonstrations on all aspects of productive gardening including summer pruning workshops, as well as a sausage sizzle.

Please note: Some parts of the garden are not suitable for wheelchairs.

Extra activities: Garden talks, potting and pruning demonstrations, stalls.

Size: 1 acre, 0.4 ha.
